01 - Signing up for DrawBoss
It's no longer an option to sign up for DrawBoss.
If you are a registered member of DBgF you automatically have access to DrawBoss and can create a tournament.
If you are not a registered member of DBgF you can still follow a tournament via the link provided by the tournament staff.
02 - Tournament types
"Tournament types" are also referred to as "game types" within the DrawBoss system.
There are several tournament types in DrawBoss:
* Cup Tournaments

--- Cup with simple consolation
--- Cup with progressive consolation
--- MBT cup style
--- Nordic Open style
* Round Robin
* Swiss Tournaments
--- random pairing.
03 - Simple cup tournament
A simple cup are characterized by a fast tournament structure with exciting games all the way during a tournament, as players are out of the tournament as soon as they lose their first match.

A cup tournament with consolation consists of a main round, where all winners progres to next round. Losers of first round are placed automatically in the consolation bracket, where they will find a winner.
This is a popular format on club evenings as it is a fast to play thru, and at the same time very easy to run as a tournament leader - while playing as well. Most players are guaranteed two matches, and all matches are important!

05 - Cup MBT style

This picture is the most simple form of a cup in MBT style and shows in headlines how players are moved from main tournament to the consolation bracket (called "Fighters bracket). MBT style is either more compact or in some cases identical to the progressiv cup structure and will often result in slightly faster tournaments.

06 - Cup with progressive cons.
Cup with progressive consolation means that all players are guaranteed two matches in a cup tournament structure. Even losers of the final in the "main" tournament will be put in the consolation brackets and can if chosen be moved back again to the main brackets.
We strongly suggest tournament organisers will try this tournament out with a test tournament within conducting the real tournament, to get some practise with the flow within the tournament. Bear in mind that the consolation bracket tends to take a lot longer to finish, of course depending on match lenghts in both brackets.
07 - Cup Nordic Open 24 players

This format includes a Fighters Bracket: If you lose a match in the main tournament, you will go down in the Fighters Bracket from where you will have a harder way to win the tournament. But you are still in!
All matches in this tournament format are interesting as winners always progresses toward the winning spot.

08 - What is an organisation?
Organisations are used to group players within same kind of sport, geographically, etc. To an organisation is it possible to create an ranking table based on an ELO ranking formula, see more details on the ELO system in the FAQ.
Organisations are also used to determine players and connect to excisting organisations with a "member ID". An example of this are Dansk Backgammon Forbund (Danish backgammon union) who has many members created in DrawBoss and connected to an organisation called "Dansk backgammon Forbund" with their "DBgF-number". When tournament then is completed, DrawBoss can create a file that can be directly used to import into the DBgF system and thereby keep the rankings updated faster and with less errors.
09 - What is an Event?
Events are used to group several tournaments together in one big event. Like Wimbledon in tennis consists of Senior men, senior women, doubles etc. The Event here is then called "Wimbledon" and all tournaments within this event are named according to an exact description.
An important feature is that Events are used to bind an organisation to a tournament - if a tournament is created without the use of an event, then DrawBoss do not know where to take information from - like member IDs...
Example: In our local backgammon club we play each wednesday, so we have created an event called something like "Weekly Tournaments in Herning" and connected it to the organisation "Dansk Backgammon Forbund". When we created our weekly swiss tournament we name it like "Fox 12-04-2017" and choose our event "Weekly tournaments in Herning". All players participating will then see their current rating (which is being updated every night) and when tournament is completed a file can be created from within the tournament page in DrawBoss and send to "Dansk Backgammon Forbund", who will then complete and update the players rating.
